Wub True Wub
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Whatcha got planned?
For a number of reasons, the day has always had a soft spot in my heart.
1) Hopefully, we tell the people we care about how much they mean to us on a regular basis. If not, Feb 14th is a day as good as any to start. Anybody would be lucky to have this much love between them after 60 years,
2) The first American commercial Valentine was produced in my hometown of Worcester, MA.
3) You can use the holiday as an excuse to be super self-indulgent!
So what are your V Day traditions?
Special Dinner for your sweetheart? Your favorite vino? Music? Some steak-frites? Little chocolate and hazelnut?
Indulgent Day to Yourself?
Relax: Start with your favorite Cup of Coffee and something sweet, your comfiest robe, and the morning paper?
Draw yourself a long hot bath. Allow yourself to enjoy it, reflect on the previous year or not think about anything at all. Apply your favorite mask, scrub, the extra something just for you. Bring a pitcher of water with sliced cucumbers or raspberries, just in case you get a little parched.
Follow up with your favorite moisturizer and smartest PJs, dress up for yourself.
Get comfy: Bring stacks of magazines, books you’ve been meaning to finish, letters you’ve been meaning to write. Enjoy the day lounging.
No need to plan for a big meal, make a small charcuterie plate, maybe a little fresh burrata, sliced granny smith, green grapes. And when it’s time, and you will know, indulge in something decadent . Go to your local bakery and pick something out the prior day. Something from which you always advert your eyes. This is that day to have it. Maybe it’s a slice of German chocolate cake or petite fruit tarte.
Or how about making the 14th an all out Treat Yo Self Day–
Or show the girls some love.
Who was there when you were sobbing uncontrollably, snot running down your face? Your girlfriends. Show them some love with a grown-up friendship bracelets
How’d you meet your S.O.?
My parents have a great story. They met at the first dance, freshman year of high school. Dad used the pick-up line, “Kinda stuffy in here, want to go outside?” Mom shot him down with “Let’s not and say we did”. He didn’t talk to her till junior year. Their first date was sledding and to go see “Easy Rider”. Oh the good old days.
And grandma and gramps.
